Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled
-
Whereas:
- Millions of dogs and cats are inhumanely raised and confined, and brutally slaughtered for consumption and the harvest of the fur; and
- The United States, England, Australia and the European Union have taken steps to prohibit the importation and/or sale of these pelts.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, request (or call upon) the Government of Canada to:
1. Recognize the cruelty and inhumane nature of the raising, confinement, and slaughter of dogs and cats;
2. Recognize the special relationships Canadians hold with dogs and cats in their homes and workplaces; and
3. Ban the importation of any dog and cat pelts or furs, and prohibit the sale of said products in Canada.

CRUELLY FAKE FAUX-FUR
Attention all animal lovers. There's an online petition to ‟ban the importation of any dog and cat pelts or furs and prohibit the sale of said products in Canada." It has more than 8,000 signatures and needs 100,000 to be tabled in the House of Commons. It's sponsored by MP Don Davies and is one of the first official online petitions to the House.
Few people realize when you buy an imported fur or faux-furtrimmed garment there's a good chance it has dog or cat fur on it.
It's not easy to tell faux from real fur, and fur from dogs and cats in China can be cheaper to use than faux fur. Even when labeled fauxfur, it could be from a dog or cat.
There are no labelling requirements to tell people from which animal fur sold in Canada has come. The U.S. has animal-oforigin labelling. Even then, tests show labels cannot be trusted. A jacket labeled faux, coyote or fox fur could be from a dog or cat.
Google ‟China dog or cat fur" and you'll quickly learn the cruel reality of what happens to dogs and cats there. The petition link is: http://bit.ly/23d4qEr, or search for e-Petitions House of Commons e-123.
