Photonics and Laser Technology - Optoelectronic Labs

Discover technologies that transform entire industries. The Bachelor of Information Technology - Optical Systems and Sensors (BIT-OSS) Degree program is a joint collaboration between Algonquin College and Carleton University. Graduates of the program receive the following: Bachelor of Information Technology Degree (from Carleton University) Ontario College Advanced Diploma in Photonics and Laser Technology (from Algonquin College) Discover hands-on skills in optical networks, laser technologies and related technologies. Learn about a number of different areas including: waves diffraction optics fluid vacuum systems kinematics Study heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, general physics and opto-electronic devices. You may use devices such as a: GSI Lumonics excimer laser that has been converted to run as an ultraviolet nitrogen laser RF CO2 laser running up to a 20-watt level YAG pulse laser You have access to a modern optophotonics lab, an advanced optics and laser labs, an optics and imaging lab and an optical fiber device to give you the best education possible. During your final year, you complete and intensive photonics research project often linked to an industry partner. Photonics and laser technology have applications in practically all industries. The knowledge and skills you learn open up a vast number of career opportunities. Job opportunities in these fields are rising exponentially in Canada. Some of our graduates also find jobs in Asia, Europe, Africa and the United States. Upon graduation, you may find career opportunities in: biotechnology medical research optical coatings optical device manufacturing holographic technology You may also seek careers in imaging, laser technology, space technology and crystal manufacturing.
